FAQ

Where are you from/where do you live now?

I was born in and live on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. I love how close we are to major cities, but we can enjoy the scenery of forests, countryside, mountains and oceans.

How long have you been making art?
I've been making art for as long as I can remember. My parents say I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil, and I've never stopped.

Where did you go to university and what did you study?
I went to Vancouver Island University where I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree with a Major in Visual Arts.

What kind of materials do you use?
I use a lot of Fluid cold-pressed watercolour paper, but I also enjoy Bee Paper watercolour paper. I paint with gouache on paper, and Winsor and Newton markers on paper as well.

Do you do embroidery too?
Yes! And I sew a lot of my own clothes.
Is there anything you can’t do?
I'm very bad at frisbee golf.

Have you illustrated children's picture books?

Yes, I've worked with one publisher as well as a couple of self-publishing authors on picture books. In addition to some formal training, I've also attended several literature conferences and I'm a member of the Society of Children's Books Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).

I have a great idea for a picture book and I'm going to be sending it to a publisher soon. Would you be interested in illustrating it?

I appreciate being considered to illustrate your book! However, if you're submitting the manuscript to a traditional publisher, as opposed to self-publishing the book, they will most likely choose the illustrator for you. It's very rare that an author gets to choose their illustrator when working with a publisher. However, you can trust that they are professionals and know an illustrator who will help bring your book to life!

I'm self-publishing a book and I'm looking for an illustrator. Would you be interested in illustrating my book?

I'm very passionate about children's literature, and always enjoy working on picture books that are engaging and exciting for young readers. At the moment I'm working on my own projects and don't have much time to dedicate to other projects. However, I encourage those looking for an illustrator to check out the SCBWI for other illustrators.

Are you taking on commission work for smaller projects such as single portraits?

Occasionally I'll take commissions for smaller custom artwork. To inquire, please feel free to contact me with details about what you would like to commission, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Can you change the colour of a print/the contents within a picture/etc?

Sorry, once the artwork is complete I don't make any further changes to it.
